FAQ: How to Setup Virus Scanning with Computer Associates InoculateIT

Any version of Computer Associates InoculateIT that has a Real-Time Monitor feature is compatible with eXchange POP3.

General Instructions

The following steps are general for configuring any virus scanner to work with eXchange POP3. If a particular step is not possible on your virus scanner, skip the step.

Step 1
Within your virus scanner, turn on automatic scanning of inbound files (ie. files written to hard drive).

Step 2
Within your virus scanner, any option selected on how to handle infected files should operate automatically without user intervention (no pop-up messages or dialogs should occur).

Step 3
You scanner should only scan the SCAN subfolder of the eXchange POP3 installation. The other folders and most importantly the DATA subfolder and all the folders under it should NOT be scanned.

Step 4
Enable virus scanning in eXchange POP3.
While running eXchange POP3 Administration program select:

eXchange POP3 Configuration Virus Scanning

and enable virus scanning. See eXchange POP3 Help for information on virus scanning options.
